Illustrator (Children’s Book & Social Media Visual Designer)

Looking for: Illustrator (Children’s Book & Social Media Visual Designer)

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly creative illustrator to collaborate on a long-term children’s book series and accompanying social media content. The ideal candidate will create playful, expressive illustrations inspired by the quirky, line-drawing style of the client while maintaining originality and a unique artistic voice.

This is not a one-off project. The role is designed for an illustrator interested in building a sustained creative partnership, contributing meaningfully to storytelling through visuals, and growing with a multi-book series over time.

Scope of Work:

  • Illustrate full children’s book content (not just covers), including characters, scenes, and storytelling visuals
  • Produce simple, expressive line drawings (with or without color) that enhance narrative emotion and engagement
  • Create visual assets for social media (e.g., illustrations, light animated content, promotional graphics)
  • Interpret written stories into compelling visual narratives that resonate with children (ages ~8–16 as series progresses)
  • Collaborate closely with the author to refine artistic direction and storytelling approach
  • Participate in a short trial project (sample illustration from provided story excerpt)
  • Maintain consistency in character design and visual style across a book series

Qualifications:

  • Strong illustration skills, particularly in expressive, character-driven, hand-drawn or line-art styles
  • Ability to emulate the feel of the client’s work without copying
  • Experience in children’s book illustration and/or storytelling visuals
  • High level of creativity and ability to interpret narrative tone, emotion, and relationships
  • Good command of English to understand story nuances and emotional subtleties
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate openly
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy

Tools Required:

  • Any illustration or design tools the artist is comfortable with (e.g., digital or traditional mediums)
  • Ability to deliver digital outputs suitable for print and social media
  • Communication tools (e.g., WhatsApp, email, or similar platforms for regular updates)

Shifts & Hours:

  • Flexible, output-based work (not time-bound)
  • No fixed schedule or time zone requirement
  • Workload will depend on project needs and illustrator’s pace
  • Open to part-time or project-based engagement

Target Start Date:

  • Flexible / Not urgent
  • Hiring will proceed after careful shortlisting and portfolio review

Rate / Compensation:

  • Project-based or output-based pricing (to be finalized with selected candidate)
  • Example structure: rate per set of illustrations (e.g., per book pages or content batch)
  • Opportunity for long-term, ongoing paid work

Additional Notes:

  • This is a long-term opportunity (minimum 3-month commitment, with potential to extend to 1+ year)
  • Illustrator will receive credit/recognition in published books
  • The role emphasizes a collaborative, communicative, and flexible working relationship
  • Ideal candidate values creative input, consistency, and storytelling impact
  • Opportunity to become the primary illustrator for an entire book series
